What Does the Service Look Like?
These services can take place in a variety of ways, and in a variety of pleaces – from a church sanctuary to a clearing in a field. They often, however, include many of the following elements:
Processional
The animals process into the place of worship, accompanied by their owners.
Call to Worship
Prayer for the Animals
Scripture Lesson
Message (link to sermon starters)
Litany of Blessing
Time of Sharing
Where individuals can share about the impact God’s creatures have had on their lives.
Individual Blessings
This can be done in two ways, depending on the number (and relative size) of the animals at your service. You can either go around to the animals individually, or you can invite the owners to bring the animals forward. A possible blessing is as follows: “Bless O God, this your creature, and all who are involved in its care and protection.”
