NCC Presents a New Resource for Land Stewardship!

The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program invites you to celebrate God's gift of land and to examine our role as stewards with a new resource entitled, Rooted in God's Word and Lands. The resource - which addresses issues ranging from energy development to sustainable agriculture to urban sprawl - is intended as a guide for congregations, study groups, and individuals to engage in faithful study and action on land stewardship.

Rooted in God's Word and Lands

Thanking and praising God for the beauty of creation is an essential part of our ongoing faith journey and worship experience. Rooted in God's Word and Lands is both a celebration of the lands God has entrusted to our care and a guide for translating that passion into active ministry that answers the Biblical call to redeem the land, do justice to our neighbors, and work with God to heal creation. Download the following materials:

  • Study & Action Guide: Background on land stewardship, sermon starters, adult and youth education ideas, and suggestions for personal, congregational, and community action (pdf file)
  • Bulletin Insert: For use "as-is" or for liturgy ideas (pdf file)

For a hard copy of "Rooted in God's Word and Lands," email or call us at 202-544-2350 or info@nccecojustice.org.

We hope these ideas inspire further thought, conversation, study, and action in answering the Biblical call to be faithful stewards of God's lands and the whole of creation.

Land Stewardship Basics

From towering mountains to stark deserts to glorious forests and wide open fields, God's lands are an integral part of creation. Just as it was for the ancient Israelites, the land is more than real estate or mere dirt under our feet. While it includes the gifts of soil, air, and water for material sustenance, it is also the foundation of human community-where we live, work, play, and find spiritual renewal. The lands we know and enjoy encompass both human-built communities and the wide open spaces of wilderness, which provide habitat and nourishment for God's other creatures. Click Here To Learn More…

Ideas for Action

James 2:20 reminds us that "faith without works is barren." There are lots of ways that congregations and individuals can put their faith into action to protect and redeem God's lands. Click Here To Learn More…

If you have innovative ways your congregation incorporates land stewardship into the ongoing life of your church, please let us know. We would love to share those ideas with others. Send photos, sermons, liturgy examples, stories, and action ideas to:
